DOUBLE DEGREE AND THE MODEL OF TWO VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Vocational Qualification and Matriculation Exam at the same time

Students of South Carelia Vocational College have the possibility to take a matriculation exam together with a vocational qualification. This is known as the double degree.

If an applicant intends to take a double degree, they normally apply in a joint application procedure for a vocational qualification. After acceptance the applicant receives the study place and applies for the double degree as soon as the vocational education begins. The student is informed about this possibility in their acceptance letter. However, students wanting to do the double degree need to have at least a 7.0 grade average grade on their school leaving certificate before they are allowed to take a double degree.

In a double degree the students can finish upper secondary school studies in Finnish, English and Swedish languages as well as advanced or basic syllabus in mathematics. Consequently, it is possible for the student to take part in the matriculation exams for these study subjects.

Taking a Vocational Qualification in Business and Administration at the same time with another vocational qualification

The students of South Carelia Vocational College in Imatra have the chance to choose a study model of two vocational qualifications instead of traditional studies. In this new study model, students take a Vocational Qualification in Business and Administration as well. This takes four years to complete.

If an applicant intends to take these two vocational qualifications, they apply normally using the joint application procedure for the vocational qualification they are interested in. After acceptance they receive the study place and apply for the double degree once their vocational education begins.

In this study model of two vocational qualifications a business point of view is taken into consideration throughout the general studies. For example studies in mathematics include business mathematics. Also, on-the-job learning periods are combined and the student produces only one final year project from a business perspective. What’s more, during their on-the-job learning periods, the students are able to carry out duties that support both qualifications.

With the help of this two vocational qualifications study model, South Carelia Vocational College wants to promote entrepreneurship and improve students’ chances of working in sales in their own field.
